Combining 5 days birding in Mabamba with a wildlife safari in Lake Mburo is a fantastic experience for nature enthusiasts. As the best birding destination in Africa with 50% of the bird population in Africa, you will get to combine both the rich diversity of avian and wildlife species; Mabamba is known for its biodiversity especially in regards to bird species while Lake Mburo is known for impalas and the largest number of zebras in Uganda, combining them is quite the thrill. 5 days birding in Mabamba combined with Lake Mburo wildlife safari will give you an opportunity to see birds like the elusive shoebill stork as the most desired, papyrus gonolek, blue swallow, white-winged warbler, yellow warble, yellow wagtail, water thicknee, tawny eagle, swamp flycatcher, stripped kingfisher, squacco heron, pygmy geese, pied wagtail, pied kingfisher, malachite kingfisher, red-faced barbet, black-bellied bustard, speckled mouse bird, blue-headed coucal, saddle-billed stork, black-headed gonolek and many more; plus wildlife like zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, oribi, waterbucks, leopards, hippos, hyenas, topi, reedbuck and more. The trip will start in Kampala to Lake Mburo and back to Kampala.
You will be picked from the airport by our driver guide from Glory Summit Tours, who will then brief you on how the next few days will be handled and will also respond to any questions you might have. After the briefing he will drive you to your lodging in Entebbe close enough to both Uganda Wildlife Education Center and Mabamba where you will check in and have an early lunch as you enjoy the beautiful scenic views around your lodging. When done with lunch, you will head to Mabamba bay. Once at the bay, you will take a boat ride through Mabamba Bay, known for its rich birdlife and stunning landscapes and its particularly famous for its population of shoebill storks, so keep your eyes peeled for these unique birds and other birds like grey-crowned crane, lesser jacana, papyrus gonolek, orange weaver, black egret, black crake, goliath heron, warblers, and more. Explore the surrounding wetlands and mangrove forests, which are teeming with diverse wildlife too. With the birding done, you will return to your accommodation and relax after a day of exploration, enjoy a delicious dinner featuring fresh local cuisine and retire at will.
You will have breakfast, then head out to UWEC for some birding and wildlife viewing. Once at the center expect to see birds like rare shoebill, African fish eagle, giant kingfisher, great blue turaco, common bulbul, little grey greenbul, grey crowned crane, African grey parrots, slender billed weaver with animals like lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, chimpanzees, baboons, hyenas, kobs, waterbucks, snakes and many more. When done with the zoo, you will have lunch after which you will head out to the botanical gardens for some beautiful sceneries and some more birding. While at Botanical gardens you will see birds like oink-backed pelican, yellow-billed stork, grey plantain-eater, purple banded sunbird, African jacana, lesser jacana, malachite kingfisher, crowned hornbill, little weaver, cormorants, herons and more with butterflies, different plant species and primates like monkeys. Once the birding is done, you will also get to enjoy the sun setting as it’s a beautiful view since the gardens are located along the shores of Lake Victoria. You will then head back to your lodging in time for dinner and then retire at will.
You will checkout of your lodging, have breakfast and then leave Entebbe for Lake Mburo which will take about 5-6hours. You will have a stopover at the Equator for some picture moments and lunch before you proceed to Lake Mburo through Masaka. As you continue your journey, the terrain gradually transitions into rolling hills, characteristic of the region and the landscape is covered with lush greenery, providing picturesque views as far as the eye can see. Once you get to your lodging, you will check in and rest. You will enjoy the sunset as you settle in, have dinner and retire for the night.
Once breakfast is done, you will be picked by the guide and head out for the morning game drive in Lake Mburo which will take about 3hours and will see animals like zebras, elands, antelopes, impalas, hyenas, buffaloes, topis and birds like fish eagles and the rare shoebill stork. When done you will head back to your lodging, rest and then have lunch. After lunch which you will get ready for an afternoon boat cruise at Lake Mburo where you will see animals like hippos, buffaloes, antelopes and crocodiles and birds like the shoebill stork, African fish eagle, pied kingfisher, egrets, herons, African Finfoot, ross’s turaco, narina trogon and more.. After the boat cruise, you will return to your lodging for dinner and then rest for the night.
With breakfast done, you will check out of the hotel and exit the park for Kampala. On your way to Kampala you will enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the countryside and also have a chance to take some pictures while at it. A stopover in Mbarara for lunch and another at the Equator for more pictures and exploring the craft world will be done. Then continue to Kampala at an agreed point which will mark the end of your 5 days birding in Mabamba combined with Lake Mburo wildlife safari.
