This is a 5 days birding safari that will expose you to the pearl of Africa’s avifauna ranging from swamps and wetlands, around Lakes, montane forests and savannah plains. With this safari, you will witness impressive array of bird species and other wildlife in their natural habitat as you visit the true birding spots in Uganda for example, Entebbe botanical gardens, Mabamba wetland a home to over 300bird species and Lake Mburo National Park that harbors over 350bird species. This birding expedition will surely expose you to the globally threatened bird species, migratory and restricted bird species for example the rare Shoebill stork, Papyrus Gonolek, Pallid Harrier, Blue swallow, Turacos, Cuckoos, Nightjars and Allies to mention but a few which are all catchy. Be assured of encountering eye catching flora and fauna like mammal species, primates, reptiles and many others.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and birding in Entebbe

You will be received by our company driver guide at the airport who will immediately transfer you to a hotel to check-in for refreshment, a brunch or an early lunch and a briefing from the guide before proceeding to Entebbe Botanical gardens and the Uganda wildlife education center. On your afternoon visit to Botanical gardens and the wildlife center, your eyes will start catching these beautified feathered creatures for example Marsh sandpipers, green Shank, Great and long tailed Cormorants, Malachite, common Ruff wood, tallow and golden backed Weavers, pygmy Kingfishers, superb Sunbird, Palm swift to mention but a few and later return to the hotel for dinner and a night stay.

Day 2Mabamba wetland

After your morning breakfast, transfer to Mabamba swamp with a packed snack or lunch since you will be birding the whole day around the wetland and Lutembe bay. This is a popular spot for the endemic Shoebill stork one of the threatened bird species in Uganda and also harbors unique globally restricted and migratory birds for example cooper, green throated, scarlet chested and red chested sunbird, Jacanas, Lesser, African purple swamp hen, spur-winged goose, slender billed, black headed, and golden backed weavers, great-blue, black-billed and white-crested turaco among others that you will not go away without spotting. Transfer back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Wake-up early morning, have breakfast then set off for Lake Mburo National Park with a stopover at the Equator for your gallery update, and informal talks proceed to Lake Mburo National Park at a lodge for your check-in and lunch. Embark on your birding after lunch as you catch an evening boat cruise on Lake Mburo that lasts for about 2 to 3 hours. This guarantees one a clear view of amazing bird species such as the African Fish-eagles, Pelicans, Kingfishers, Cormorants, Herons, Hamerkops, African finfoot, and beatified flora and animals like Hippopotamuses, Crocodiles, Elephants, Antelopes, Buffaloes, Impalas, Zebras, Lions and many more. Back to the lodge for dinner and night-stay.

 

Day 4Birding in Lake Mburo National Park

After your relaxed breakfast, head off with a skilled birder guide for an entire day bird trail around areas of Warukiri and Mirti swamp where you will spot various birds like the rare Shoebill stork, Saddle-billed stork, African finfoot, grey Snipe, Papyrus yellow Warbler, white-winged Barber, pink-backed Pelican, greater Cormorant, Abyssinian ground-hornbill, white-winged black Tern, Ross’s Turaco, brown Parrots, common Scimitar bill to mention but a few. You can still proceed to Rubanga forest areas where you will spot various forest birds. Go for a game drive immediately after lunch along Zebra trail to spot savannah birds like Conque Francolin, Flappet lark, Weavers, among others and head back to the lodge for dinner and a night-stay.

Day 5Morning game drive and back to Kampala

The day starts with a morning breakfast and proceed for a game drive along the Lake sides as you magnificently spot various bird types like the Blue-headed Coucal, white-winged Warblers, lesser and greater swamp Warblers, Gonolek to mention but a few with plenty of animals like Hippopotamuses as they rash back to the waters, Zebras, Impalas, Elands, Defassa Waterbucks, Reedbucks as they feed. Proceed to Kampala with a lunch en-route in Masaka city arriving in the late afternoon at the hotel or at the airport depending on the time of your flight.
